Sunday Night Lights
Sunday Night Lights kicks off March, 1st at CrossFit MTZ!
It only happens once a year and only one event can truly be called a celebration of our competitive spirit. Our goals at CrossFit MTZ are to educate and inspire and competition helps to inspire. So, beginning Sunday, March 1st and for the next five weeks we are going to bring the thrill and fun of competition home with an intramural team competition! This will be an opportunity to compete in a fun, no-pressure setting to support each other as we test ourselves in this year's open. We WANT you, we NEED you to be on one of our teams.
The 2015 CrossFit Open begins Thursday, February 26th. The Open is a worldwide 5-week CrossFit competition that marks t...he first round of qualifications for the CrossFit Games. More importantly it is a GREAT opportunity to challenge yourself and to see how your fitness stacks up against the rest of the world!
You can join by indicating "going" on the event page or sign up at the gym. The deadline to join is Thursday, February, 19th. Team captains are being finalized and will be announced here soon. On Friday, February 20th, the captains will "draft" their teams through a rotating draw of the hat of all those who are participating. The team members will then need to come up with names for their teams by Tuesday. Originality and creativity in your team name is encouraged and appreciated (think prizes!)
Each week teams will have the opportunity to earn points and prizes. Also, the team with most overall points at the end of the Games wins the grand prize. Points will be awarded as follows:
+1 Point – Participation: A maximum of one (1) point per athlete per workout. Every member of a team that completes the workout on SUNDAY night will earn one (1)point. The workouts will also be scheduled as part of our regular programming on each FRIDAY before. Anyone that cannot attend on Sunday night can complete the workout on that Friday before. If the workout is completed on Friday the athlete will receive one-half (1/2) point for participation.
+5 Points (team) – Spirit of the Games: The team with the most noise and pride (outfits?) each week will receive 5 bonus points.
+2 Points – Top 2 Male & Female: The top 2 male AND female members for each workout gets an extra two (2) points for their team. Top 2 male and female will be awarded for Rx and Scaled.
+1 Point - PR: Each PR achieved (first time lifting a certain weight, first pull-up, toe to bar, etc.) receives one point per athlete per workout
Our focus is on FUN. We want participation because it will make you fitter, and it will get you high-fives and you’ll be happy and love life more and stuff. Any athlete of ANY skill level is encouraged to sign up.
What are you waiting for?
